The Stormalongs @ New Bloor Festival, July 24, 2010

The Stormalongs performed a high-energy set at the New Bloor Festival, this past Saturday, July 24th. Once again, we played in the pouring rain, dealing with gear malfunctions and a leaking stage. As Joe Chisholm from IndieCan stated last year when he introduced us, our history of rocking in bad weather is notable. Our name has been quite ironic at times.

Nonetheless, we loved performing at the festival again. We also managed to impress a few very young members of the audience (see the pics below). With any luck, we inspired a couple of kids to go home and ask their parents for electric guitars! One little girl was seen air-guitaring on her umbrella after our set, so we might have started something.

Check out some photos from the performance below. (Check out the guy who’s plugging his ears; classic!).

Thanks to anyone who came out, and we had a great time. See you next year!

Queensway to Kingston Tour August 2010

Okay, so it’s only two shows so far, but The Stormalongs are indeed hitting the road in August! We’ve just been offered a gig in Kingston, one of our favourite places, at The Mansion, on August 22nd. We’ll also be playing Ottawa in a massive show with a bunch of old friends, on August 21st.

Summer Show Update: Horseshoes and Hand Grenades

We’ve had a few changes to our summer show schedule, including a re-schedule of our show @ The Legendary Horseshoe Tavern. But not to worry, as we’ve also added two more shows @ The New Bloor Festival and the Split Level Festival here in Toronto. Also, we’re making our first trip to Ottawa, and hoping to add a few more dates around that trip. Now you’ve got plenty of chances to catch our show!

Here’s our updated Show schedule:

Acousticore for Learning Enrichment Foundation

Although it may not seem that way from listening to our music, we actually really love playing acoustically. We have had several unplugged shows thus far, and will continue to do so as we relish the opportunity. One of the things we enjoy so much about these performances is that they give us an opportunity to play for people that wouldn’t necessarily come to a normal rock show.

Case in point: we recently played at the Annual General Meeting of the Learning Enrichment Foundation here in Toronto. LEF is a great organization that helps to fill some of the gaps in our social services.

Their mission statement:

The Learning Enrichment Foundation provides community responsive programs and services which enable individuals to become valued contributors to their community’s social and economic development.

We’ve actually played for them twice now, through our bass player Matt’s work connections. They are a really open and friendly community of people, and their events are always a fun mix of food, music, intercultural dialogue, and social justice.

The Stormalongs performed a short set as a three piece (two acoustic guitars and acoustic bass), with all three of us singing on one microphone, just like 1940′s radio.

Here are some pics from this performace. (Note Adam’s formal attire; he had just come from work and hadn’t taken his suit off. The Full Windsor!)

Free Show @ New Bloor Festival

Hey, have you ever thought to yourself: “It’s Saturday, and I feel like some local culture, awesome food, and free music”? Are you sick of sitting around your apartment thinking about how you’re slowly roasting? Do you hanker to see some music and entertainment that is too often overlooked by the other summer festivals?

If so, The Stormalongs, Toronto’s most rocking of indie rock bands, have got an event for you.

We have been invited once again to play at The New Bloor Festival, on Saturday July 24th, 2010. This is an annual family-style street festival, organized by the Bloordale BIA. We played the event last year when it was known as the BIG Festival, and our set was caught in the rain (which we documented in the ‘Watersong’ video that you can see here). But we played anyway, braving the possibility of electrocution in order to bring our music to the good people of Toronto.

This year we will be performing at 5 PM on the Margueretta Street Stage.

Not sure where that is? Check out the event map below, or go on their website (www.newbloorfestival.com) to see the full schedule of events.

There are many cool acts performing this year, all of the entertainment at the festival is free, and it’s a great event to help support the Bloordale community in general. Maybe we’ll even play songs from our upcoming album 2nd, ‘Raise Up Your Head’! Two things that go well together: new music and food eaten while standing.

And since you’re alreading reading our website, jump over to the ‘Single’ page and download our new digital single ‘Cadence’ b/w ‘Equinox’ for free, with some beautiful artwork. If you like the songs, send ‘em to your friends!
