About Fell Like Bricks:
The Stormalongs are proud to release their debut album ‘Fell Like Bricks’ via CDBaby and iTunes. The album was produced and mixed by Dale Morningstar, a legendary indie-rocker who has worked with hundreds of artists (e.g. Thrush Hermit, The Dinner Is Ruined). Working at Morningstar’s renowned Gas Station Recording Studio on a Toronto island, the band recorded 13 songs over four consecutive days in March 2009, with a quick visit to a haunted lighthouse nearby for further inspiration. The album is epic and powerful, filled with big textural guitars, deep atmospherics, and classic rock songwriting. ‘Fell Like Bricks’ was mastered beautifully by Noah Mintz, one of Canada’s most distinguished engineers, at Lacquer Channel Mastering.
“Recording with Morningstar certainly helped us to capture an intense atmosphere,” says guitarist/vocalist Colin Gibson. “Dale is known for creating a great vibe, and his commitment to pure inspiration helped us to focus on the essence of the songs and the performances. He allowed us to record a proper old-school rock album, using live energy and semi-forgotten recording methods. Even though the songs were refined continually over the last two years, they have retained all their raw power. And The Gas Station is one of the coolest and most inspiring spaces in Toronto, so recording there was an amazing experience for us.”
The Stormalongs have been making their name as a captivating band since they formed in Toronto in 2007. They are inspired by classic and alternative rock, and have been compared to Dinosaur Jr and Smashing Pumpkins; but in the tradition of alternative rock, they strive to create something new and exciting from familiar elements. They were recently a ‘Featured Artist’ on CBC 3/New Music Canada.
“Toronto classic alt-rock band, The Stormalongs, have released a powerful & high energy debut album. “Fell Like Bricks” is multi-textured, catchy and well worth listening to. ” (CBC 3/New Music Canada)
